A Day In The Life Of Yinny – Amplifier Of Awesome
A day in the life of Yinny – Amplifier of Awesome
Welcome back to The Sponge world! A while back, our Impact Growth Alchemist, Jess, gave everyone a glimpse of a day in her life and what it’s like to be a part of the Sponge team! Today it’s my turn, step inside and let’s go on an adventure full of technology, computer games, positive impact and lots of instagramming.
11:00am –
This is when my alarm wakes me up, no really! The day starts at 11 for me. I wash my face, brush my teeth – all the essentials, and sit down to make my breakfast. Two slices of grain toast, hummus, avocado and two eggs, my favourite.
Now it’s time to eat and check our socials, I’ve got to stay on top of it! New likes, some new comments and new followers – just what I like to see. I spend some time replying to the comments and interacting with our favourite hashtags for the day: #impact #goodbusiness #purposeful and #goodkarma.
11:30am –
Almost time for the first round of social posts to go up, I pull up the spreadsheet document to access the captions and hashtags then upload everything to our channels.
Within 15 minutes there’s a notification! Luke has replied to one of my posts on Alter Eco, it always makes me happy to share good brands with people because we’re all about helping all brands be good for the world. I chat to Luke for a bit and excitedly vouch for this chocolate brand.
1:30pm –
Sitting down after “breakfast” and socials to watch the team live video this week! Hearing about all the projects being worked on this week makes me happy because we’re seeing tangible examples of the impact we’re making. We’ve got two main initiatives we’re focusing on; our Double the Goodness Grant and our Impact Karma Seed. These are two projects I am incredibly proud of the team for working on because it reflects who we are as a company and our personal values as well.
I then open Gmail and send a few messages to our Luke and Jess as well, our new episode of Monthly Marketing Munchies is going up soon and it’s time to step up the social promo game!
Communication in a remote team is important since we’re not face to face. This is why we always communicate via online chat and jump into conference calls if there’s anything that needs hashing out. This is one of my favourite things about working here too! Everyone is so dedicated to communication and making it be on par with working in a physical office environment.
2:00pm –
Time for the gym! Staying active is a huge must for me to maintain my mental and physical health! It helps me do the best I can for my team and is a great break between the day! Today is leg day so it’s time to load up the barbell, do some squats and follow it with a bunch of isolation exercises!
3:00pm –
Mid-gym session but it’s time for the second round of social posts! I bring up my social spreadsheet on my phone, grab all the content and post it to our channels – easily done, and now it’s back to the workout – I’m really feeling the burn at the moment.
4:00pm –
Finally, home! That was exhausting but worth it, there’s no doubt that I’m going to be sore tomorrow! It’s time to grab a protein bowl, I blend 1 cup of chobani, 1 banana for some recovery carbs and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Then I top it off with some figs and berries– yum!
After the gym, I end up doing relaxing, doing a bit of crocheting, jumping onto my computer for a few games of Overwatch with my friend and making dinner! (And post the final round of social media content in our 6:00pm time slot!)
8:00pm –
It’s work time again! Tonight, I’m going over our LinkedIn strategy, social media content for next week and making sure everything is all good to go so that I can do the best for The Sponge. I then send it off to my team for review because feedback means a lot to me. We all work hard to make this perform like a well-oiled machine!
10:00pm –
Well that’s all done and dusted! It’s time to play some Divinity Original Sin 2 with my favourite person in the whole world! No doubt we will probably be up till 3:00am fighting Shriekers in a Dungeons and Dragons setting.
And yes! This is a real workday at The Sponge! There is such an insane amount of flexibility, I can work at my own starting time, even go to the gym and do our social posts mid-session. And most importantly fit in such an amazing work-life balance while doing something purposeful.
It’s actually a dream come true to be able to balance your hobbies while doing what you love to help make the world a better place – I couldn’t have asked for a better team and every day I know how lucky I am to be in this work situation.
Tomorrow is another new day at The Sponge, here’s to doing more of what I love, (and working remotely at home with my cats)!
[…] And they’ve encouraged to incorporate my personal play in my job by doing things such as; suggesting for me to write a blog post showing what I do throughout the day, even detailing my gaming breaks and showing photos of my computer setup (you can check that post out here!) […]
